One hundred years after her death, the Belvedere Museum Vienna is paying tribute to the painter Tina Blau. A new exhibition in Masterpieces in Focus series presents her work in all its magnificence. The show, of which Dorotheum is co-sponsor, starts on 16 December 2016.
The show features major works from every stage in Tina Blau’s career, including many that have never before been seen. Research conducted prior to publication of the artist’s new catalogue raisonné unearthed previously unknown paintings.
Catalogue raisonné
Curated by Claus Jesina and Markus Fellinger and co-sponsored by Dorotheum, an online catalogue raisonné of the artist’s works will provide the first comprehensive overview of Tina Blau’s complete works. An exhibition of her most important work starts on 16 December 2016 as part of the “Masterpieces in Focus” series in the Upper Belvedere.
Tina Blau
Tina Blau is rightly considered one of Austria’s most sought-after landscape artists. Even at a young age she was uncompromising in her pursuit of an artistic career. Through diligent study and wide travel, the talented painter perfected her craft into something truly extraordinary.
She developed a modern concept of landscape painting that was ahead of her time in many ways. Tina Blau is at her most modern in her smaller studies and oil sketches. Some of these small masterpieces, such as “Prater Landscape” from 1881, are best seen as both studies in composition, mood, colour and tone and as impressionist snapshots.
