Works by artists such as Carl Andre, Donald Judd and Robert Morris from the celebrated Enrico Pedrini Collection are coming up for sale at Dorotheum’s major spring auction of Contemporary Art.
Enrico Pedrini (1940–2012) was an Italian intellectual, art curator and collector of Conceptual, Dada, Minimal, Fluxus, Viennese Actionist, Arte Povera and graffiti art. Renowned, amongst other things, for his visionary insight and distinctive passion for anthropological and concept-driven art, Pedrini is known for publications including John Cage, Happenings and Fluxus (1986) and The Quantic Machine and the Second Avant-Garde (1991), a book in which he discusses the relationship between quantum theory and the visual art movements of the 1960s.
His extensive knowledge had a profound influence on his collecting, allowing him to build up an exceptional collection of works noted for their remarkable quality. Pedrini curated a number of major international exhibitions at prestigious venues, including those at Studio Oggetto in Milan, Galleria Giorgio Persano in Turin, the Musée d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain in Nice, and the Williamsburg Art & Historical Center in New York City. In 1995, together with Wolfgang Becker, he co-curated the Taiwanese Pavilion at the 46th Venice Biennale.
The Dorotheum auction on 22 May 2025 will feature three works by leading figures of Minimal Art from the Pedrini Collection. While the American art movement is primarily associated with three-dimensionality, these works on paper distil its essence in a unique and compelling manner.
